3 Things to consider when buying sunglasses

Posted by Mignon's Treasures

It’s summertime ladies and you know what that means. It’s time to break out those sunglasses! Why not do so in a manner that reflects your personal style and serves a purpose? Here are some things to consider that will help you select the perfect sunglasses.

  1.  The right fit. Believe it or not, sunglasses come in various sizes. Taking a measurement of your face will help to determine the right fit for you. The bridge on the sunglasses should fit securely on the bridge of the nose, without pinching. The nose pads should not press into the face at any point. When the wearer moves, or even bends over and touches the floor, the frames should stay in place.

  2.  Protection level. Two types of UV rays are UVB and UVA. UVB rays are the major cause of sunburn and skin cancer. They occur throughout the year but they’re more prominent during the summer between 10 am and 4pm. UVA rays emit radiation on a more consistent basis regardless of the time of year and they are known to cause skin cancer, photo-aging and cataracts. In addition to UV protection, polarized lenses are a smart choice. They were designed to block glare while enhancing clarity, color and depth perception. They’re ideal for all outdoor activities, especially water and snow sports.

3. Face shape. There are four common facial shapes: Oval, Square, Round and Heart. With oval faces, you have symmetrical features, and your jaw tapers evenly to your chin. Almost any style flatters your face. You should try the popular cat-eye or gladiators. With square faces, you have a prominent jaw line, and your face is the same width at your forehead and across your cheekbones. You should try the round frames to balance out your beautiful features. With round faces, your face is almost as long as it is wide, and your cheekbones are the widest point. You should try squares frames or the modified geometric square shapes. Heart faces are widest at the cheekbones and narrowly taper to your chin. You would look great in a pair of rectangular frames.
